LOCAL CROFTERS ENCOURAGED TO STAND IN ELECTIONS

MichaelRussel2NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR CROFTING COMMISSION BOARD

SNP MSP Michael Russell is encouraging local crofters to put forward candidates in Argyll and Bute for election to the Crofting Commission board or to stand for election themselves.

The commission is responsible for helping to regulate and promote the interests of crofting and this is an exciting opportunity to bring fresh thinking directly from local crofting communities to the board.

Argyll and Bute MSP Michael Russell said:

“The elections to the Crofting Commission board provide a great opportunity for local crofters to help realise the potential of crofting in Scotland.

“I would encourage local crofters in Argyll and Bute to put themselves forward for election to the Crofting Commission board in order to bring a combination of local and strategic views from the ground to this board. It is vital to have a Commission made up of people who represent and reflect the interests and diversity of all of Scotland’s crofting counties. It is also important that all crofters make their voices heard by voting in March’s election.

“With crofting tenure accounting for almost 10% of Scotland’s total land mass – these elections provide a fantastic opportunity to empower local crofters and to share local knowledge and examples of successful diversification initiatives, in areas such as renewables, tourism and woodland.

“32% of crofters in Scotland are women and I would encourage female crofters in particular to make sure their voice is heard in these elections.”
